Service DescriptionBlood donation is a humanitarian action which contributes to saving the lives of patients in need of a blood transfusion such as those with bleeding due to accidents and surgeries and genetic disease (thalassemia). Also, regular blood donation reduces the incidence of stroke, heart attack and activate the bone marrow activity in the production of new blood cells and get rid of excess iron levels in the body.

This service provides an opportunity for the public to register their data in order to donate blood voluntarily and to support the need for daily blood banks in case of emergency

Target AudienceHealthy adults from the age of 18 - 65 years and whom are  healthy and eligible to donate blood.
Requirements & Conditions

1-Blood donor should be in good general health condition at the time of blood donation.

2- Age should be between 18- 65 years.

 3- Weight not less than 50 Kg.

 4- Blood pressure should be between 60/ 100 to 100/ 180 mm Hg.

 5- Pulse rate between 60-100 pulses/minute.

 6- Body temperature not more than 37°C.

 

  1. It is not recommended for pregnant and lactating woman are not recommended to donate blood for the sake of her health and her baby.
Documents Required- Valid ID issued from UAE ( Emirates ID)
- Valid passport with residency visa for non-Emirati.
Service Procedures

The four steps of blood donation

Whole blood donation is completed in four steps. The entire process, from registration to refreshments takes 60 minutes to 1 hour. The blood collection takes approximately 8 -10 minutes.

Step 1: Registration

Upon arrival to the blood center or mobile drive you will be asked for a photo ID ( Official ID with photo) and you will be given a registration form to be complete along with some educational material about blood donation.

Step 2: Health history interview and brief physical examination

A qualified staff will withdraw a small amount of blood to test your hemoglobin level, to ensure that you are eligible to donate, following the blood test, the doctor will ask you health history question in a private and confidential interview, then your blood pressure, temperature, pulse will be checked to ensure that you are eligible to donate blood.

Step 3: The donation

The qualified staff will prepare the venipuncture site and gently insert the sterile needle.  Approximately half a pint of blood will be collected. This takes about 10 minutes. After the blood draw is complete the staff member will gently remove the needle and place sterile bandage on your arm.

Step 4: Rest and refreshments

Once blood donation is complete we ask you to have a rest for 15 minutes while having some snacks and beverages. This rest time allows your body to adjust to the slight decrease of the fluid. After the rest period you may resume your normal activates, through strenuous activity should be avoided for 24 hours.
