The MOH provides its services through a managerial and technical organization that have been approved in March 1989 (Organizational Structure). This structure specifies the different sectors by specialty, department and division.
The MOH is currently restructuring the present sectors, departments and divisions with the view of conforming with the fast developments of the health sector in UAE. A draft organizational structure has be already prepared. The MOH has also developed a structure for the Medical district in 2001, in which the management and technical distribution of the services were specified including different specialties and job descriptions of manpower.
According to the MOH 1999 organization structure, the health services are incorporated into 4 sectors, with their departments and divisions.
The number of hospitals operated by the MOH in 2005, which constitutes 19% of total hospitals in the country. The number of Primary Health Care Centers reached 61, in addition to:
- 9 centers for the Maternal and Child Health.
- 8 centers for School Health.
- 6 centers for Preventive Health.
- 6 centers for Dental Health.
