Importance of breast Cancer in UAE
 Cancer is 2nd cause of women deaths
  Br. Cancer is the commonest cancer
  Highest Mortality in 45-59 age group
  Highest Incidence in 45-54 age group
 Most cases diagnosed at late stages
2. Program Components
 Screening Phase
Breast Screening Protocol
 Eligibility: Women aged ≥ 40 resident in the UAE
 Screening modalities & frequency:
• Two view Mammography every 2 years
•  CBE every year
•  BSE monthly
 Program Services
 Education : Booklets, leaflets, posters
 Early Detection :Biannual Recall of target population

 Assessment of screen detected anomalies :
- Further views, US and core biopsies
- Follow up of referred cases
- Counseling for high risk profile women
 Training
- Radiologist and radiographers on screening related skills
- Training of health professionals on program implementation
- Professional guides documents
 Evaluation & quality control : Periodic reports
 Researches
3. Achievements (1999 - 2010)
• Performing 90.424 screens (Mammograms and CBE) for target women (January 2011)
• 107 thousands women have been educated and taught BSE
• 36 health education campaigns
• Expansion and installation of 6 Screening units in other districts
• Cancer detection rate CDR was 6.3/1000 for women screened aged 40 +
• Training of 39 radiographers , 19 radiologists, 1200 PHC physicians & 1500 nurses.
• Accreditation of National Breast Screening Center at Abu Dhabi by the WHO and Nottingham Breast Institute in April 2005
