Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center Official Hours till Midnight in Ramadan

​Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center announced its working hours during the holy month of Ramadan beginning from 8.00 a.m. till breaking the fast and from 8.30 p.m. till midnight from Saturday till Thursday.
 
Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practices and Licensing at the Ministry of Health and Chairman of Blood Transfusion Committee stated that the blood transfusion and research center is responsible for providing blood units and components for 43 government and private hospitals in the UAE.
 
He said: “Working at the center and extending official hours after the time of breaking the fast till midnight comes from the ministry’s interests to encourage and attract blood donors especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Blood donors can donate their blood samples to save the lives of patients and accidents injured people as well as well other categories which need blood samples on constant basis”.
 
Al Amiri stated that the center organizes blood donation campaigns on daily basis in mosques noting the roles of Sharjah Islamic Affairs and Endowment Department, Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Welfare and Ajman Islamic Affairs and Endowment General Authority in coordination with Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center for all mosques.
He also noted the great success of the entire center’s blood donation campaigns during the past years referring that about 1516 blood units were withdrawn in these 35 campaigns in coordination with the Islamic Affairs and Endowment Affairs in Ramadan 2011.
 
He said: “Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center encourages UAE nationals and residents to donate blood regularly either through the blood campaigns and mobile blood banks. The UAE nationals occupied the first rank among 91nationalities who give great support to blood donors in the country. The total numbers of withdrawn blood unites in 2011 reached 16398”.
 
It is noted that the blood donation campaigns are organized by blood donation banks to support the needs of surgeries patients generally, heart patients,  thalassemia children, accidents and emergencies departments. The center covers the needs of public and private hospitals of blood donations and components 24/7. The total number of public and private hospitals that benefited from the services of Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research services is 20 public and 23 private hospitals.
 
Al Amiri emphasized that the research and statistics of the center reveal that about 24262 blood units were withdrawn, a percentage of 8% in 2011 than 2010; this shows the awareness of the community members of the importance of blood donation. The largest average of blood donors ranges between 26 to 35 years old representing 46.1% whereas the average between 36-45 years old represents 24.6%. The younger generations between 18-25 years old represent 20% of the donors.
 
Blood donation facts:
• There is a need for blood donation samples all over the world whereas 90 million blood units were distributed in 2011 to save the lives of patients and needy people.
• Blood donation samples are categorized genetically like hair and eye color. Every human being has his or her own blood group. The most known blood groups are O, A, B, AB.
• The most widespread blood groups in our societies are A, O, B then AB.
