The developments in blood transfusion services during the past few years, has supported the vital state of health services in our country .The self-sufficiency in blood and its components and the 100% voluntary non – remunerated blood donation programs are the most important features of our services that has distinguished the blood transfusion services in the United Arab Emirates; as one of the best among the Middle East countries.
The selection of Sharjah Blood Transfusion & Research Center by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a regional collaborating center for training and research in the field of transfusion medicine for four consecutive years (2008-2012 )has distinguished this center regional level.
In addition ;United Arab Emirates is honored to be elected among the best five countries' blood transfusion services world wide , which has been announced during the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, November 2010. This election of blood transfusion services in the Ministry of Health was based on the strong support to WHO programs and the solid voluntary blood donation programs carried out by Sharjah Blood Transfusion & Research Center which is a further evidence of the excellence of this services at the global level.

Is the main center for blood transfusion services in the United Arab Emirates and responsible for the rules and regulations governing the safety of blood transfusion in all blood transfusion services, and there are (14) hospital based blood banks within Ministry of Health hospitals.
