Ministry of Health &Prevention uses next-generation tool to detect fake drugs in seven seconds

Health and Care / Published in 12 Wednesday, July, 2017

The Ministry of Health and Prevention has revealed that it is using the state-of-the-art TruScan RM Analyzer, the latest technology used to detect counterfeit drugs in less than seven seconds. Its use of the modern technology is in line with its commitment to provide comprehensive health coverage to all UAE citizens and residents and protect communities from low-quality medicines that pose health risks to patients suffering from chronic diseases, ED, heart illness, and cancer.

H.E. Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing, said that the system helps the Ministry’s inspection teams detect counterfeit drugs. The device relies on Raman radiation and gives easily understandable results within seconds. The drugs and chemicals are examined inside their containers without directly touching them, thus reducing chemical exposure. Additionally, it significantly decreases laboratory costs and enables faster release of shipments in land and sea ports and post office centers across the country.

Many international organizations are now using the analyzer, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the UK Medicines and Health Care Agency (MHRA), and other pharmaceutical companies.

The UAE is a world leader in the fight against counterfeit drugs, according to the reports of international organizations such as the World Health Organization and Uppsala Monitoring Center.
